Felipe Rojas Velozo, a Chilean tenor with a distinguished international career, started his cello studies at the conservatoire of La Universidad de Chile. He also began his vocal instruction there. He made his operatic debut in Santiago, during the 1995-96 season, as Ismaele in NABUCCO. Subsequent engagements in his native city included Alfredo in LA TRAVIATA and the tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Felipe Rojas Velozo was a member of the permanent ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatstheater Wiesbaden and at the Oper Bonn. He has guested at many opera houses including San Francisco Opera, Opéra national du Rhin, Hungarian State Opera, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatre Principal de Palma, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Trieste, Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Oper Leipzig, Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf, Aalto Theater in Essen, Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, Staatstheater Darmstadt and Staatstheater Mainz, Wuppertaler Bühnen, at the Theatre in Aachen, Magdeburg, Koblenz and Pforzheim and to the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
His repertoire encompasses roles such Manrico (IL TROVATORE), Pinkerton (MADAMA BUTTERFLY), Don José (CARMEN), Cavaradossi (TOSCA), Rodolfo (LA BOHÈME), Gaston (JERUSALEM), Jacopo Foscari (I DUE FOSCARI), Riccardo (UN BALLO IN MASCHERA), Alfredo (LA TRAVIATA), Macduff (MACBATH), Duca (RIGOLETTO), Adorno (SIMON BOCCANEGRA), Fenton (FALSTAFF), Lenski (EUGEN ONEGIN), Rinuccio (GIANNI SCHICCHI), Edgardo (LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR), Pollione (NORMA), Nemorino (L´ELISIR D´AMORE), Ernesto (DON PASQUALE) or Alméric (Iolanta).
Felipe Rojas Velozo has had many succesful concert performances working with leading orchestras in Japan, Israel and Germany. He has worked with famous conductors like Kent Nagano, Marco Armiliato, Helmut Rilling, Stefan Soltesz and Howard Arman.
