Vita
The tenor Andreas Hermann initially studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe. He then completed his music studies with Prof. Reginaldo Pinheiro at the music academies in Karlsruhe (Diploma in Music Education/Voice, graduated with distinction) and Freiburg (Opera Singing/Music Theater), as well as with Paolo de Napoli in Florence. He also participated in master classes with Gundula Janowitz and Hilde Zadek. Since 2018, he has been vocally coached by Prof. Fenna Kügel Seifried.
After his debut as an opera singer at the Frankfurt Opera in 2002, his first permanent engagements led him to the Theater Bern and, from 2004 to 2013, to the Aalto Theater in Essen. During this time, he performed almost all of the major roles in the lyric tenor repertoire, including Tamino, Don Ottavio, and Ferrando (Mozart), Fenton in FALSTAFF (Verdi), the Singer in DER ROSENKAVALIER, Walther von der Vogelweide in TANNHÄUSER, the Painter in Alban Berg’s LULU, Toni Reischmann in ELEGIE FÜR JUNGE LIEBENDE (H.W. Henze), Nadir in DIE PERLENFISCHER, Alfred in DIE FLEDERMAUS, Camille de Rosillon in DIE LUSTIGE WITWE, and later also as Lenski in EUGEN ONEGIN and Alfredo in LA TRAVIATA.
From 2014 to 2020, Andreas Hermann was a member of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, and since 2020, he has been working as a freelance artist. Starting in Mannheim, he expanded his repertoire to include several important roles in the dramatic tenor repertoire: Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Paolo in FRANCESCA DA RIMINI (Rachmaninoff), Herod in SALOME, Dionysus in Henze’s BASSARIDEN, Pollione in NORMA, and Max in DER FREISCHÜTZ. His role debuts as Florestan in Beethoven’s FIDELIO and as the Emperor in DIE FRAU OHNE SCHATTEN (R. Strauss) were particularly well received.
Guest engagements have taken him to the Stuttgart State Opera over several seasons, as well as to Gothenburg, the State Theaters of Wiesbaden and Schwerin, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Bern, Innsbruck, the Cologne Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, the Hanover State Opera, and the Frankfurt Opera. Most recently, he made his debut as Paul in Korngold’s DIE TOTE STADT under the direction of Markus Poschner at the Landestheater Linz, receiving overwhelming acclaim.
In the 2024/2025 season, Andreas Hermann will make his debut as Tristan in a new production of TRISTAN UND ISOLDE at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and will return to the Aalto Theater Essen as Tambourmajor in WOZZECK.
Among the most influential directors of his career are Stefan Herheim, Hans Neuenfels, Barrie Kosky, Christoph Nel, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Yona Kim, and Michael Sturminger. Conductors he has worked with include Paolo Carignani, Sebastian Weigle, Miguel Gómez-Martínez, Marc Piollet, Srboljub Dinic, Manfred Honeck, Dan Ettinger, Stefan Soltesz, Rubén Dubrovsky, and Alexander Soddy.
Andreas Hermann has also made a name for himself in the concert field. Initially with works by Bach (cantatas), Handel (Messiah), Mozart (Requiem), and Rossini (Petite Messe Solennelle), and later increasingly in the Romantic repertoire, such as Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Dvořák’s Requiem, and Mendelssohn’s great oratorios. In these performances, he has appeared with the Essen Philharmonic, the Frankfurt Museum Orchestra, the Northwest German Philharmonic, and the National Theater Orchestra Mannheim, among others.
