In the 2025/26 season, German tenor Andreas Hermann will appear at the Aalto Theatre Essen as the Officer (Cardillac) and King Ring (Fritjof Saga), and will make his house debut at Oper Leipzig as Richard (Regina). In 2024/25 he made a role debut as Tristan in a new production of Tristan und Isolde at Staatstheater Darmstadt and returned to the Aalto Theatre Essen as the Drum Major (Wozzeck). He had previously attracted considerable attention at the Landestheater Linz as Paul in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt.
Guest engagements have taken him to Staatsoper Stuttgart, the State Theatres of Wiesbaden and Schwerin, the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Gothenburg Opera, Bern, Innsbruck, Cologne Opera, Komische Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Hannover, and Oper Frankfurt.
From 2014 to 2020, Hermann was a member of the ensemble at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where he added to his repertoire roles such as Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Paolo (Francesca da Rimini), Herod (Salome), Dionysus (The Bassarids), Pollione (Norma), Max (Der Freischütz), Florestan (Fidelio), and the Emperor (Die Frau ohne Schatten). From 2004 to 2013, he was an ensemble member at the Aalto Theatre Essen, performing nearly all major lyric tenor parts of his fach, including Tamino, Don Ottavio, Ferrando, Fenton, Walther von der Vogelweide, the Singer in Der Rosenkavalier, the Painter (Lulu), Nadir (The Pearl Fishers), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Camille de Rosillon (The Merry Widow), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), and Alfredo (La traviata). His first permanent engagement was at Theater Bern, and he made his operatic debut at Oper Frankfurt in 2002.
He has worked with directors including Stefan Herheim, Hans Neuenfels, Barrie Kosky, Christoph Nel, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Tatjana Gürbaca, Yona Kim, and Michael Sturminger, and with conductors such as Paolo Carignani, Sebastian Weigle, Miguel Gómez-Martínez, Marc Piollet, Srboljub Dinic, Manfred Honeck, Dan Ettinger, Stefan Soltesz, Rubén Dubrovsky, and Alexander Soddy.
In concert, his repertoire ranges from Bach, Handel, Mozart, and Rossini to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Dvořák’s Requiem, and the major oratorios of Mendelssohn. He has appeared with the Essen Philharmonic, the Frankfurt Museum Orchestra, the Northwest German Philharmonic, and the Nationaltheater Orchestra Mannheim.
Hermann trained with Prof. Reginaldo Pinheiro at the music universities of Karlsruhe (Diploma in Vocal Pedagogy, with distinction) and Freiburg (Opera Performance/Music Theatre) as well as with Paolo de Napoli in Florence. He attended master classes with Gundula Janowitz and Hilde Zadek and has been coached by Prof. Fenna Kügel Seifried since 2018.
