Vita
The British-Swiss soprano Kim-Lilian Strebel commands a wide-ranging operatic repertoire that has brought her to leading international opera houses and festivals. Guest appearances include the Komische Oper Berlin (Rusalka, Lydia Pawloska in Weinberger’s Frühlingsstürme), Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Die Zauberflöte), Opéra de Montréal (Pamina), the Edinburgh Festival (Marzelline), the Royal Opera House Muscat (Gretel), as well as performances in Graz (Martha) and at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Italy. With Barrie Kosky’s acclaimed production of Die Zauberflöte, she has also toured to Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Macao, and South Korea.
Her repertoire includes key roles such as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Musetta (La Bohème), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Maria (Mazeppa), Marzelline (Fidelio), and Micaëla (Carmen). As a member of the ensembles of the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Young Ensemble), Theater Freiburg, and Theater Basel, she also appeared as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), Angelica (Orlando), Orazia (The Indian Queen), Garsenda (Francesca da Rimini), Safiye (The Crusades), Isaure (Jerusalem), and Astaroth (Die Königin von Saba).
Strebel is equally in demand on the concert stage. She has appeared with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Kammerorchester Basel, Mozarteum Orchester Salzburg, Macedonian Philharmonic, and the Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro RTVE. Her repertoire spans from Bach (Magnificat) and Beethoven (Missa solemnis) to Mozart (Requiem) and Canteloube (Songs of the Auvergne).
Born into a European family of artists, she initially trained as a dancer before Anthony Rolfe-Johnson discovered and encouraged her vocal talent. She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
