Bass Friedemann Röhlig studied at the University of Music in his hometown Leipzig and at the Stuttgart University of Music. As a laureate of the 49th International Music Competition of the ARD in Munich, he was initially engaged in the ensemble of the Staatstheater Kassel. Since then, he has been a frequent guest at major opera houses and festivals. His engagements include performances at De Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, the Opéra national de Paris, the Opéra National du Rhin in Strasbourg, San Francisco Opera, La Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro Real in Madrid, Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Nacional in Lisbon, Theater Basel, and at the Salzburg, Bregenz, and Bayreuth Festivals, as well as at opera houses in Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Leipzig, Karlsruhe, Munich, and Stuttgart.
His repertoire includes roles such as Rocco (FIDELIO), Sprecher/Sarastro (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE), Osmin (DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL), Commendatore (DON GIOVANNI), Warlaam (BORIS GODUNOV), Tschelio (DIE LIEBE ZU DEN DREI ORANGEN), Colline (LA BOHÈME), Baron Ochs (DER ROSENKAVALIER), Morosus (DIE SCHWEIGSAME FRAU), Gremin (EUGEN ONEGIN), Banco (MACBETH), Il grande inquisitore (DON CARLO), Fiesco (SIMONE BOCCANEGRA), Kaspar (DER FREISCHÜTZ), and Wagner roles including Gurnemanz, Veit Pogner, Hans Sachs, Fasolt, Fafner, Hunding, Hagen, Wotan (DAS RHEINGOLD), Marke, and König Heinrich.
In addition to opera, he is also dedicated to concert and lieder performances. He has appeared at Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Köln, Stuttgarter Liederhalle, Konzerthaus Berlin, Gasteig Munich, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Kreuzkirche Dresden, Frauenkirche Dresden, Thomaskirche Leipzig, Schubertiade Schwarzenbach, Gewandhaus Leipzig, KKL Lucerne, and Charles Bronfman Auditorium Tel Aviv.
