Since joining the ensemble of Oper Leipzig in the 2022/23 season, French soprano Solen Mainguené has steadily expanded her repertoire towards lirico-spinto and youthful dramatic roles. Parts such as Desdemona in OTELLO, Lisa in THE QUEEN OF SPADES, the Marschallin in DER ROSENKAVALIER, Gutrune in GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG and Alice Ford in FALSTAFF mark this artistic development, while roles including Mimì, Nedda and Micaëla remain central to her repertoire.

In the 2026/27 season, she returns to Oper Leipzig as Mimì in Peter Konwitschny’s production of LA BOHÈME and as Micaëla in CARMEN. She also makes a role debut as Giorgetta in Puccini’s IL TABARRO as part of a new production of IL TRITTICO conducted by Ivan Repušić, and revisits Nedda in Leoncavallo’s PAGLIACCI in the new production O FORTUNA.

Further roles in her repertoire include Tatiana in EUGENE ONEGIN, Violetta in LA TRAVIATA, Antonia in LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, Liù in TURANDOT, Rosalinde in DIE FLEDERMAUS, the Governess in THE TURN OF THE SCREW, Manon and the title role in ARABELLA. Her repertoire thus brings together French and Italian opera with Mozart, Strauss, Wagner and works of the 20th century.

Guest engagements have taken Solen Mainguené to opera houses throughout Germany and across Europe. She has appeared at Hannover State Opera, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Theater Freiburg, Musiktheater im Revier, Theater Aachen, Oper Halle and Theater Dessau, as well as internationally at Teatro Real Madrid, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Malmö Opera, Prague State Opera and the Danish National Opera. She has worked with conductors including Simone Young, Axel Kober, Ivan Repušić, Michel Plasson, Lawrence Foster, Martin Rajna, Nick Carter and Alexander Soddy.

Alongside the core operatic repertoire, she has a particular interest in music theatre projects that cross the boundaries between opera, drama and performance. This strong theatrical sensibility informs her approach to complex female characters and plays an important role in her work on stage.

Solen Mainguené is a First Prize winner of the International Singing Competition in Clermont-Ferrand, where she also received the prize for Best Interpretation of the Italian Repertoire. She has been nominated several times by Opernwelt in the categories Singer of the Year and Young Artist of the Year. Further artistic inspiration came through masterclasses with Montserrat Caballé, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Cheryl Studer, Marilyn Horne and Barbara Bonney.

Her training began at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore before she continued her studies in the opera programme at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, graduating with highest distinction. An important early stage of her professional development was the International Opera Studio at Hamburg State Opera, followed by an engagement with the company’s ensemble.

In addition to her work on stage, Solen Mainguené is committed to supporting the next generation of singers and is involved in mentoring young artists at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig.

She speaks French, German, English and Italian.
