Martin Homrich’s first engagement at the age of 23 took him to the Hamburgischen Staatsoper, where he was an ensemble member for four years before moving in 2001 to the Semperper in Dresden. During that time he sang the great Mozart roles such as Tamino, Tito, Don Ottavio, Belmonte and Ferrando as well as Flamand in Richard Strauss’s CAPRICCIO, Tom Rakewell in Stravinsky’s THE RAKE’S PROGRESS, Macduff in Verdi’s MACBETH, Hans in Smetana’s THE BARTERED BRIDE and Max in Weber’s DER FREISCHÜTZ.

 

As a freelance singer he has made guest appearances at such venues as the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Semperoper in Dresden, at the Aalto Theater in Essen, the Hamburgischen Staatsoper, the Landestheater Innsbruck, the Staatstheater Kassel, the Kölner Oper, Teatro alla Scala, the Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre of Moscow, the Bayerischen Staatsoper in Munich, the Opéra National de Paris, the Opéra de Rennes, the Prague National Opera House, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Hessisches Staatstheater in Wiesbaden and the opera houses in Wuppertal and Zurich.
 Additionally, he has appeared at the Schwetzingen Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Schloss Ludwigsburg Festival and the Richard Strauss Festival.

 

He was making guest appearances as Balthasar Zorn in Wagner´s DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG at the Bayreuther Festspiele, Prince in Prokofjew´s THE LOVE FOR THREE ORANGES in Wiesbaden, as Edmund in Aribert Reimann´s LEAR, as Narraboth in Strauss´ SALOME and Stewa in Janacek´s JENUFA in Hamburg and Hannover, as Erik in Wagner´s THE FLYING DUTCHMAN at the Opera in Hamburg and Zurich, as Emperor in Strauss´ THE WOMAN WITHOUT A SHADOW at the Musiktheater im Revier, as Max in Weber´s DER FREISCHÜTZ in Limoges, as Graf Elemer in ARABELLA at the Semperoper Dresden and at the Wiener Staatsoper, as Bacchus in ARIADNE AUF NAXOS at the Nederlands Reisopera and the the Stadttheaeter Gießen, at that place also as Aron (MOSES UND ARON), as 1. Geharnischter in Mozart´s THE MAGIC FLUTE as well as Balthasar Zorn in Wagner´s DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG at the Opéra National in Paris, as Tamino at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin, as Florestan in Beethoven´s FIDELIO at the Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro and at the Opéra de Rennes and as 1. Gralsritter in Wagner´s PARSIFAL at the Bayreuther Festspiele.

 

In the course of his career, Martin Homrich has worked with conductors like Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Marek Janowski, Stefan Soltesz, Armin Jordan, Donald Runnicles, Ulf Schirmer, Peter Schreier and Simone Yang.

 

In the recent past he portrayed roles like Hoffmann (HOFFMANNS ERZÄHLUNGEN), Albrecht von Brandenburg (MATHIS DER MALER), Ismaele (NABUCCO), Königssohn (KÖNIGSKINDER), Jim Mahoney (AUFSTIEG UND FALL DER STADT MAHAGONNY), Albert Gregor (THE MAKROPULOS AFFAIR), the title role in Haydn´s ORLANDO PALADINO at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen and Melot (TRISTAN AND ISOLDE), 3rd Knappe (PARSIFAL) and Balthasar Zorn (DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG) at Bayreuth Festival.
