In the 2025/26 season, Dominic Limburg will make his concert debut with the Munich Radio Orchestra, conduct the new production of Detlev Glanert’s Die drei Rätsel at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, lead symphony concerts at the Oldenburg State Theatre and with the Biel Solothurn Symphony Orchestra, the revival of Winterreise with the Staatsballett Berlin, and the award-winning ballet Nurejew at the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He will also conduct performances of Die Zauberflöte and Verdi’s Aida at the Deutsche Oper Berlin during the season.

In 2024/25 he conducted, among others, a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at Northern Ireland Opera; La traviata, I vespri siciliani and Der fliegende Holländer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Puccini’s La Bohème at the Chemnitz Theatre; the premiere of Winterreise (after Zender/Schubert) with the Staatsballett Berlin and the Staatskapelle Berlin; The Nutcracker at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe; Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims with the International Opera Studio of Zurich Opera House; Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar; and Weber’s Der Freischütz at the Oldenburg State Theatre.

From 2021 to 2024, the Swiss conductor served as Kapellmeister at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where he conducted a wide-ranging repertoire from Verdi, Puccini, and Bizet to Wagner, Mozart, and Humperdinck, including La traviata, Rigoletto, Verdi’s Requiem, La Bohème, Die Zauberflöte, Hänsel und Gretel (also on tour to the Royal Opera House Muscat), Carmen, Les vêpres siciliennes, Der fliegende Holländer, and Fidelio.

Prior to that, from 2016 to 2021, he was engaged at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, first as Second Kapellmeister and from 2020 as First Kapellmeister. There he led opera, ballet, and concert productions from the Baroque to contemporary music, including Swan Lake, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Die lustigen Nibelungen, The Tales of Hoffmann, Anna Bolena, The Cunning Little Vixen, La clemenza di Tito, and the world premiere of Avner Dorman’s commissioned work Wahnfried.

As Assistant to Sir Donald Runnicles, he was deeply involved in the Deutsche Oper Berlin’s great Wagner tradition, working on productions such as Götterdämmerung (Stefan Herheim), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Jossi Wieler), and Fidelio (David Herrmann), as well as revivals of Lohengrin, Tristan und Isolde, and Der fliegende Holländer.

Guest engagements have taken him to the Beethoven Orchester Bonn, Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester Mannheim, Kammerphilharmonie Graubünden, and the Meiningen State Theatre, as well as regular work with youth orchestras, including the 2021 national tour of the Swiss Youth Symphony Orchestra with Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, with performances in the Tonhalle Zurich, Victoria Hall Geneva, and the Stadtcasinos of Basel and Bern. Since 2019 he has served as Chief Conductor of the Zurich Chamber Philharmonic.

Born in Zurich to Spanish heritage, Limburg was a member of the Zurich Boys’ Choir before studying piano and voice at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he completed his master’s degree with distinction in the conducting class of Professor Schlaefli. He received further inspiration from masterclasses with Bernard Haitink, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and David Zinman, as well as from his long-standing work as Assistant to Justin Brown in Karlsruhe. From 2015 to 2021 he was a scholarship holder of the German Music Council’s “Forum Dirigieren” and was included in its “Maestros of Tomorrow” list.
