Among projects of German tenor Daniel Kirch are 2016/17 a new production of Lohengrin in Nantes and Angers, Der Fremde in a new production of Korngold’s Das Wunder der Heliane at Vienna Volksoper as well as his debut in the title role of Tristan und Isolde in the legendary production by Heiner Müller at Opéra de Lyon conducted by Hartmut Haenchen. In St. Gallen he will sing Dvorak’s Requiem, in Rom Beethoven’s Missa solemnis and in Dresden Beethoven’s 9th symphony.

 

2017/18 are scheduled, among others Fidelio in Stuttgart and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Beijing.

 

Higlights among the 2015/16 season were Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Budapest conducted by Adam Fischer, the title role in Tannhäuser in Innsbruck, Siegmund in Die Walküre and the title role in Parsifal conducted by Ulf Schirmer in Leipzig, Erik in Der fliegende Holländer in Warsaw and Fritz in Schreker’s Der ferne Klang in Graz.

 

He performed Stolzing in a production by Tobias Kratzer and conducted by Justin Brown in Karlsruhe, in Leipzig conducted by Schrimer and in Mancherster in concert form conducted by Sir Mark Elder. He war heard as Erik at the New National Theatre in Tokyo and in the title role of Tannhäuser in Leipzig.

 

Other highlights of past seasons include Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos in Beijing, Paul in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt in Nancy, Nantes and Angers, Florestan in Fidelio in Bergen and Hof, Lohengrin in Coburg, Wagner’s Liebesverbot in Leipzig, Kaufmann in Rihm’s Jakob Lenz in Bologna as well as Jim Mahoney in Weill’s Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny in Essen and Leipzig. In 2010 Daniel Kirch gave his debut at Deutsche Oper Berlin as Karl von Valois in Walter Braunfels’ Szenen aus dem Leben der heiligen Johanna – the last production of Christoph Schlingensief.

 

2007 Daniel Kirch made his first step towards the “jugendlicher Heldentenor” singing Max in Weber’s Der Freischütz – first in concert performances in Warsaw followed by a fully staged production in Salzburg.

 

He performed at Staatsoper Berlin, at Opernhaus Zürich, at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, at Semperoper Dresden, at Vienna Staatsoper/Burgtheater, at Oper Köln, at the festivals of Bregenz and Salzburg, at Theater Basel, at the Nederlandse Reisopera, at Oper Düsseldorf, at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, at the Gran Teatro Liceu in Barcelona as well as at Bayerische Staatsoper Munich.

 

Daniel Kirch is also working with conductors such as Janowski, Michael Gielen, Valery Gergiev, René Jacobs, Christian Thielemann, Claudio Abbado and with stage directors like Harry Kupfer, Michael Thalheimer, Robert Carsen, Andreas Homoki, Peter Konwitschny, Günter Krämer, Christof Loy and David Pountey.

 

A concert highlight was his debut in the part of Waldemar in Schönberg’s Gurre-Lieder conducted by Lothar Zagrosek in Berlin, followd by more concerts with Reinbert de Leeuw in Rotterdam and Den Haag as well as with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic  in Tel Aviv.

 

Former concert projects include Sankt Bach Passion at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam under Markus Stenz, Schumann’s Faust-Szenen with the Warsaw Philharmonic under Antoni Wit, Mahler’s 8th Symphonie under Eliahu Inbal, Schmidt’s Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln, Verdi’s Requiem, Beethovens Missa Solemnis and 9th Symphonie, Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde with the Ensemble Intercontemporain under Susanna Mälkki in Paris, Zender’s adaption of Schubert’s Winterreise with, among others, Klangforum Wien and the title role in a concert performance of Krenek’s Orpheus und Eurydike unter Lothar Zagrosek at the Konzerthaus Berlin.

 

As a song recitalist he gave his debut 1999 in Berlin with Schumann’s Dichterliebe, which he also performed 2000 in Zürich at the Freunde des Liedes under the patronage of Irwin Gage.

 

More recitals with Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin folllowed in Berlin, Cologne and Zurich, with other programs he guested at, mong others, Bad Kissinger Sommer.

 

Daniel Kirch studied at the Hochschule für Musik of his hometown Cologne with Hans Sotin, as well as in Berlin with Irmgard Hartmann-Dressler. He also studied with James Wagner, Reiner Goldberg and Dennis O`Neill. Since a few years he is working with Jan-Hendrik Rootering.

 

He is an award winner of several voice competitions, among those the Bundeswettberwerb Gesang Berlin.

 

With the beginning of the 1997/98 season Harry Kupfer engaged him to the ensemble of Komische Oper Berlin, where he sang regulary – later as a guest – until 2004.

 

Several of his productions are documented on CD or DVD for Capriccio, Wergo, HR, WDR, BR and Naxos.
